DISCIPLINES
This private residence continues VERITAS’ exploration of the courtyard house as a contemporary urban dwelling. As an inward-looking sanctuary, the design adopts a C-shaped plan that embraces a shaded central courtyard, offering calm, privacy, and environmental relief within a dense setting of surrounding commercial developments. The courtyard functions as the spatial and climatic heart of the home. An existing stone wall from the original 1960s bungalow is carefully retained and reinterpreted as a sculptural landscape element, grounding the new architecture in memory while providing enclosure, shade, and visual focus.
This architectural expression continues through a material palette of steel, glass, concrete, and timber. These materials are deployed with precision to balance structural clarity and tactile warmth. Custom-designed built-ins and fixtures are integrated as architectural elements reducing visual clutter. Crowning the residence is a dramatic metal roof articulated with integrated timber sun-shading. This elevated form defines the home’s silhouette, differentiating the house within its Bukit Damansara setting.
