DISCIPLINES

Set atop a busy Dhaka rooftop, this architecture studio reimagines the city’s underutilized vertical plane as a place for creativity, sustainability, and spatial innovation. Conceived in response to the dense and constrained ground-level fabric, the project leverages elevation as opportunity—crafting a workspace where nature, climate, and architectural expression converge.

ARCHITECTURE

The rooftop setting presents an inherently warmer microclimate, yet the design embraces this constraint as a driver of environmental strategy. Rather than relying on deep shading, the studio introduces a series of controlled open-sky voids. These apertures promote cross ventilation, inviting the southern breeze to flush warm air through the space while heat vents naturally to the north. The result is a workspace that remains passively cool, porous, and deeply connected to its environment.

A 60-foot-long linear corridor becomes a signature spatial element—not a transitional passage, but a curated exhibition spine. Clad in mahogany timber panels, this elongated volume elevates everyday circulation into an immersive, atmospheric experience, functioning as both gallery and gesture of craftsmanship.

The studio is organized into two distinct zones: a public collaborative floor and a secluded mezzanine above. The mezzanine operates as a contemplative design studio, sheltered yet visually connected to the activity below. Overlooking the main workspace, it maintains both privacy for conceptual exploration and a sense of collective continuity. Throughout, natural materials, passive cooling, and a north–south orientation reinforce the project’s commitment to sustainable, responsive design.
