DISCIPLINES
Feng Shui guides the design behind the Corten house, a contemporary three-story family residence on a corner plot in Bukit Damansara. Including a basement, the house is gently elevated by half a story, a thoughtful design intent that gives primary living spaces privacy while maintaining a strong presence in the neighborhood.
ARCHITECTURE
The house is organized in an L-shaped plan that frames a central landscaped courtyard and swimming pool. This layout establishes the focus of the house inward, prioritizing private family life over street-level engagement. Dining and communal spaces are oriented toward this internal garden, reinforcing a seamless indoor–outdoor relationship and creating a calm retreat from the surrounding urban context. Feng Shui principles influenced the orientation and spatial hierarchy, ensuring balanced circulation and spatial harmony.
A robust yet refined material language sets the tone for overall architectural expression. A two-storey grooved concrete feature anchors the front façade. At the same time on the southwest elevation, perforated Corten steel screens filter the harsh afternoon sun, reducing heat gain while creating a patterned display of light and shadow. A cantilevered rooftop sky pod with a family theatre overlooks the pool, completing the vertical progression of private and shared spaces within the home.
