DISCIPLINES
The interior design for the new Thomson Hospital in Kota Damansara draws inspiration from nature, integrating biophilic elements, intuitive color zoning, and adaptive layouts to support healing, wellbeing, and the evolving demands of modern healthcare. Formerly the Tropicana Medical Center, the new complex includes an expansion, which in total houses 326 beds, lounge areas, and flexible conference and meeting facilities.
INTERIORS
Natural light and pockets of greenery uplift what would otherwise be a dull hospital environment. Despite being simple interventions, these enhance overall sensory experience, promoting recovery for patients. The muted pastel palette reflects the elements of nature — from floral and foliage-inspired hues to tones evoking water, mountains, butterflies and the sky — to thematically zone each floor.
Color also plays a particularly nurturing role in the women’s and children’s wards. Soft tones, integrated with playful motifs drawn from the natural world — sun, bees, and garden-like landscapes — are used to gently offset the typically clinical aesthetic of a hospital, creating spaces that feel warm, reassuring, and connected. It’s an approach that makes color a vital design element in delivering both comfort and care.
