DISCIPLINES
BSN Residence, designed by VERITAS Indonesia and completed in 2023, is a renovation and extension project in Duren Sawit, East Jakarta. The home represents urban living for a family of three, balancing spatial functionality with a clear architectural identity.
ARCHITECTURE
The layout is organized around a central courtyard with a swimming pool, creating a spatial and visual connection between the home’s two wings. A new timber-decked roof garden and semi-outdoor gym — sheltered by a tensile membrane roof — extend the home vertically and horizontally, maximizing usable space while blending indoor and outdoor environments.
The architectural composition is both grounded and airy, with thoughtful massing and clean lines. Carefully integrated voids, overhangs, and courtyards optimize airflow and natural lighting throughout the residence. BSN Residence is an attempt in creating a sanctuary that is elegant, functional, and responsive to its tropical urban context.
INTERIORS
The interior is a blend of modern aesthetics and personal comfort, tailored for a family of three. The refurbishment creates layered, welcoming spaces with a warm material palette and elaborate finishes. The home’s interiors prioritize liveability with four main bedrooms and two guest rooms designed for comfort and privacy. A solid timber dining table grounds the communal dining area, offering a tactile focal point with views of the garden and pool.
Interior spaces flow naturally, with bespoke carpentry, ambient lighting, and curated furnishings enhancing every corner. Soft textures and earthy tones create a calming backdrop, while large openings blur the boundary between indoor and outdoor spaces. The result is an interior that’s both contemporary and enduring, where every design choice reflects the family’s lifestyle.
LANDSCAPE
The landscape design transforms the home into a green urban sanctuary. At its core, a central courtyard with a shimmering swimming pool anchors the layout, inviting natural light and cross-ventilation. A roof garden with timber decking offers a serene escape above the bustling city, while a semi-outdoor gym beneath a membrane roof connects daily life with nature.
The front yard features a tranquil fish pond, framed by stone carved walls that add textural depth and serve as visual focal points. Lush plantings soften hard edges and guide circulation between the wings of the house. The visual connection between the living spaces and garden elements is carefully orchestrated, enhancing the home’s openness and sense of retreat.
